Our purpose, aims and principles
Although Merganser Consulting’s origins lie in the development of education management and services, we are now able to build on that expertise to offer consultancy support across government services. One of the critical features of education management is that it impacts across the whole of society in a very immediate way. This client based environment is particularly instructive for those operating in a wide range of government services.
Merganser Consulting is committed to the development of effective education throughout the world. We believe that there is no more important task than ensuring that future generations grow and develop their understanding. Each individual has a unique positive contribution to make to those around them, and to wider society. And each individual has a right to lead a happy and fulfilling life. The full potential can only be realised when that individual has access to sound education from an early age.
Each society has its own conception of what is meant by “good education” and there are often different views within a society. Education, more than many human activities, is culturally rooted. What is appropriate in one society may not be appropriate in another.
There are however some fundamentals which in our view should be universal. Everyone should be able to read and write, both in their mother tongue, and in the language which is most common in the place in which they live. Everyone should have basic skills in numeracy and access to a wide range of other educational opportunities. As an organisation, we believe strongly in equality of opportunity for all.
Through our wide experience around the world we know that there is still a long way to go before our aspirations for education for all, can be achieved. Many children still do not get an opportunity to go to school, and many adults still lack basic literacy and numeracy skills.
Our aim is to provide very experienced professional insight into how to make sound education progress quickly.
